Your account
Signing up
Choose Start your free trial on the home page. The person who signs up becomes the owner of the firm's workspace. The workspace is free for 14 days; see Plans and billing.
You can sign up in two ways:
- Sign up with Google. Choose your Google account, then add your firm's name, your name and a phone number, and choose Create account. You do not need a password.
- With your work email and a password. Fill in the form and choose Create account. Nishaan then emails you a link to confirm your address. Open it to start your free trial; until then, Nishaan shows only the page that asks you to confirm. The link works once, for 24 hours. No email after a few minutes? Check your spam folder, or choose Send the link again. Signing up with Google needs no confirmation, because Google has already checked your address.
A few rules keep accounts real and safe:
- Use a permanent email address. Temporary or throwaway inboxes, and addresses at domains that cannot receive email, are not accepted.
- A sign-up whose address is not confirmed within 7 days is deleted, and the address can sign up again.
- If someone else signed up with your address but never confirmed it, you can still take it over: choose Continue with Google with that address, or Forgot password?. Both prove the mailbox is yours, and the other person's password stops working.
- Each mailbox can have one account. Variations of the same address, such as
name+trial@firm.in, or a Gmail address with dots in different places, count as the same mailbox. - A password needs at least eight characters. Very common passwords, and your own email address, are not accepted.
- The firm's name is the name of your practice, not an email address, and the phone number needs 10 to 15 digits, such as +91 98765 43210.
Completing your firm's profile
If your firm has no phone number yet, or its name is an email address, Nishaan asks the owner for them in a small window after signing in. They go on your letters and client reports, and let us reach you about your account. Fill them in and choose Save, or choose Later: Nishaan asks again the next time you sign in. You can also change them any time in Settings, Agency profile.
Signing in
Choose Sign in. Then either choose Continue with Google, or enter your email and password. You stay signed in for one day on that browser. After that, Nishaan asks you to sign in again.
After several wrong passwords in a row, Nishaan asks you to wait before trying again. Choose Forgot password? if you do not remember it.
Signing in with Google
Continue with Google works for any account whose email is the same as your Google account's.
- New to Nishaan: Nishaan asks for your firm's name and starts your free trial.
- You already have a Nishaan password: the first time, Nishaan asks for that password once to connect Google to your account. This makes sure only you can connect a Google account to your account. After that, Continue with Google signs you straight in, and your password still works too.
You can also connect Google from Settings, Account, under Sign in with Google. Choose the Google account with the same email as your Nishaan account.
To stop signing in with Google, choose Disconnect Google there. You need a password first, so you can still sign in.
Changing your password
Go to Settings, open Account, enter your current password and the new one twice. Changing your password signs you out on your other devices.
If you signed up with Google and have no password yet, enter a new password twice, then confirm it with your Google account. You can then sign in either way.
Forgot your password
On the sign-in page choose Forgot password?, enter your email and choose Send reset link. Open the link in the email, enter the new password twice and choose Save new password. Resetting your password signs you out on every device. The link works once, for one hour. Asked several times? Only the newest links still work, up to three in an hour.
If no email arrives, check your spam folder. If your firm's Nishaan has no email set up, an owner of your firm can remove your account and add it again with a new starting password.
Email alerts
Each morning at 8 am Nishaan sends you a short summary by email. It lists:
- your deadlines due in the next seven days, and any that became overdue in the last month,
- hearings in the next two weeks, including those listed by IP India for your marks,
- new conflicts with your marks in journals published since the last summary,
- steps the other side missed,
- status changes to your marks and cases.
The email only goes out when there is something to report. Deadlines that have been overdue for more than a month are shown as one line with a link, so they do not fill every email.
To turn the summary off or on, go to Settings, open Account and use Send the daily summary to your address. Every person on the team chooses for themselves. Send me a test email sends you the summary as it would look right now.
If the card says email is not set up on this server yet, no alerts are sent. Ask your administrator to add the mail server details.
Owners and members
| Role | Can do |
|---|---|
| Owner | Everything, including the firm's profile, team members and report templates |
| Member | Everything else: portfolio, journal watch, reports, oppositions, search and analysis |
An owner can change anyone's role in Settings, Team: Make owner or Make member. A firm always has at least one owner, so make someone else an owner before stepping down yourself.
Signing out
Use Sign out at the bottom of the menu on the left.
Changing your sign-in email
Go to Settings, open Account and use Sign-in email. Enter the new address and your password, and choose Send the confirmation link. Nishaan emails a link to the new address, and tells your current address too. Nothing changes until you open the link; then you sign in again with the new address and your same password. Google is disconnected at the change, because it vouched for the old address; connect it again from the same page.
The new address follows the same rules as a sign-up: one account per mailbox, and no temporary inboxes. If you sign in only with Google, your address is your Google account's; add a password first to use another one.
Downloading your data
Owners can download a copy of the firm's data in Settings, Account, Download your data. It is one Excel file with a sheet each for the firm's profile, team, portfolio, opposition cases and reports, competitor watch, client contacts and reports, status history, invoices and activity. It works even after your plan has ended.
Deleting your account
Go to Settings, open Account and scroll to Delete account.
- Delete my account removes only your own sign-in. Your firm keeps all its data and its other people. The only owner of a firm must first make someone else an owner in Settings, Team, or delete the whole firm.
- Delete the firm (owners only) removes the firm and everything in it: every person's sign-in, the portfolio, opposition cases, reports, client reports, templates and settings. Auto-pay stops, so nothing more is charged.
To confirm, type your password (or, if you sign in only with Google, confirm with Google), and to delete the firm, type its name exactly as shown. Deleting cannot be undone.
Some records stay after a firm is deleted, because the law and our books need them: invoices, payments, refunds and credit notes, and the record of what happened in the account. A new sign-up from the same email address works, but it does not get a second free trial.
